Accepting Proposals for 2014!

We’re on the hunt for great candidates to depave and regreen.

Depave-lead projects typically take about a year to plan, fund and implement, so we are now seeking sites for the summer of 2014.

If you know of a place badly in need of more greenspace, and you have permission to depave from the property owner, please tell us about your vision for the space.

The first step is to fill out our Site Assessment Form.

Restore Our Natural Areas Local Option Levy Passes!

This five-year levy will improve water quality in local streams and rivers, and restore 16,000 acres of our region’s natural areas, and will only cost $20 per household per year and.

It was a blast to get together with our favorite depavers on the lanes again for our fourth annual bowling fundraiser. The proceeds from this event go a long way toward helping Depave to operate during the summer depaving season when we have a lot of material expenses for multiple projects.

A very special THANKS to all the generous businesses who supported the raffle and auction – we hope everyone is enjoying their prizes! See you out on the asphalt this summer.

4th annual DEPAVE BOWLING FUNDRAISER!

Join us for a family-friendly evening of fun with the depave gang. Over the past five years, Depave — with the help of our wonderful volunteers — has removed over 100,000 square feet of asphalt within Portland and replaced it with new gardens and community greenspaces.

With your help, we will continue to expand our efforts at home and elsewhere. Bowling with us will support Depave projects in 2013.

You’ll also have a chance at lots of rad prizes through our raffle and silent auction.

We hope to see you bowling!

When: Saturday, March 9th from 5 to 8.

Depave is in the 2012 Willamette Week Give! Guide! The Give! Guide helps to facilitate year-end giving to a cross-section of Portland-area nonprofit organizations.

You can make a donation to Depave through the Guide online in one easy transaction. The Guide runs until December 31st, so look for Depave in the guide and then follow the simple instructions to donate.

Word & Spirit Church

Great depave to wrap up the season! A mighty crew from Word & Spirit Church and the surrounding neighborhood dug in to make way for a little bit of paradise in this corner parking lot. The new and improved lot still has plenty of parking, but now has trees, native plants and two great big bioswales to catch all the rainwater that falls on the site. Thanks to the guys from Bull Run Cider for donating apple trees for this project and treating us to a cider tasting!

Year End Bash -12/11

James John Phase 2

Planting the beds and the bioswale on October 13th went perfectly – a beautiful, clear fall day. Thanks to everyone who helped complete this two year project to transform the playground!

A stellar crew of dedicated volunteers braved the rain to complete the second phase of depaving at James John. In 2011, in partnership with Adidas, The Timbers Army, AC Portland, and the St. Johns Main Street Coalition, we depaved nearly 4,000 sq ft of the playground for a soft-surface play and spectator area to complement a mini-turf soccer field sponsored by Adidas.

This summer we depaved to make way for planting beds and a great big bioswale that will infiltrate the rainwater that falls on the asphalt playground. Groundwork Portland’s Green Team pitched in to help us create the rain garden and built a rad community kiosk complete with eco-roof! Thanks to Joseph Perky of Convergence Architecture and to Robin Smith Landscape Design for donating design their services. A big THANKS also to James Creel and the crew at JBCGSI for helping with the heavy lifting on custom angled cutting, concrete work and excavation.

Ontario Depaving Coalition Breaks Ground

This year, we had the pleasure to work with the enthusiastic folks at Green Communities Canada and LEAF in Toronto to teach their partner organizations the ins and outs of creating large-scale depaving projects. After several in-depth webinars, we completed the training with a visit to Kingston, Ontario to conduct an in-person workshop with local depave leaders.

Annd.. their off an depaving! We’re soo excited to see these groups pick up the prybar and take action to improve overpaved places around Ontario and work to create an ongoing effort to sustain depaving in Canada.
