The depaving season is well under way – Our Happy Block and Capitol Hill were awesome! Our next event – at James John Elementary School – is happening Saturday July 23th from 9am until 2:30pm at 7439 North Charleston Avenue in North Portland. Join Depave and the Timbers Army as we tear up 4,000 square feet of asphalt to make way for a soft-surface nature play area that will also serve as seating around the school’s new soccer field – provided by our project partner Adidas.

This depave is rated a Par 3 – the surface is medium thick (~4″) and the slabs are medium to small. Work is expected to be a light-hearted breeze.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Depave will provide volunteers with all the necessary tools, safety gear, and refreshments.

Volunteers are encouraged to arrive early, while it’s still cool out, but are free to show up later. Stay as long/short as your schedule allows. Due to the physical nature of asphalt removal, volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, as well as clothing appropriate for the weather.
