The depaving season got off to a super start with Our Happy Block in June! Our next event – at Capitol Hill Elementary School – is happening Saturday July 9th from 9am until 3:30pm at 8401 SW 17th Avenue in Portland. We’ll be removing 5,000 square feet of asphalt to make way for a soft surface play area complete with new climbing and swinging equipment, a story circle, and lots of native trees for some much needed shade.

This depave is rated a Par 4 – the surface is medium thick and the slabs are big but super easy to pry and tilt up – resulting in maximum asphalt annihilation satisfaction – the bigger they are, the harder they fall! This one’s going to be a blast!

Volunteers of all ages are welcome – there will be smaller safe areas for children to help out. Depave will provide volunteers with all the necessary tools, safety gear, and water. Snacks and a barbeque chicken lunch will be provided by the Capitol Hill PTA. Volunteer appreciation AFTER-PARTY (all you can drink) to follow.

Volunteers are encouraged to arrive early, while it’s still cool out, but are free to show up later. Stay as long/short as your schedule allows.
Due to the physical nature of asphalt removal, volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, as well as clothing appropriate for the weather.

No RSVP needed. Email Eric with questions. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
