Sam Alig (he/him)
VICE PRESIDENT
Sam grew up in the Midwest and moved to Oregon 8 years ago. He came to Oregon to work as an outdoor instructor facilitating multi-day outdoor rock climbing and whitewater rafting courses for the Northwest Outward Bound School. His time working, living and instructing outside led him to the field of landscape architecture 5 years ago, where he got his master’s degree from the University of Oregon. He currently works as a landscape designer at Alta, a sustainable planning, design, engineering firm, focusing primarily on active transportation projects. Sam became more familiar with Depave’s work when he volunteered at Powell Butte Elementary School on a planting/weeding day. Only after getting more involved did he find out how layered and important the mission of Depave really is. Sam is passionate about helping to build up his community and using his design education and experience to create beautiful spaces. In his free time, you can find him climbing, hiking, throwing pottery or riding his motorcycle. Sam serves on the Site Stewardship Committee and Exectuive Committee. Contact Sam

Jeremy Maxwell (he/him)
MEMBER
Jeremy grew up in Colorado’s rural San Luis Valley, and moved to Portland in 2013. He first Depaved in 2015, and became a crew leader soon after. At Depave, he’s grateful to have been welcomed to neighborhood schools, clubs, and churches to see firsthand the transformation that’s possible when neighbors work together. He’s constantly inspired by Depave and its rich community.
You might find Jeremy at OMSI, where he volunteers alongside brilliant scientists, educators, and community advocates who share a belief in the power of science education. Professionally, Jeremy works for a German mobility company that’s pioneering electric propulsion, as we near the sunset of internal combustion engines.
At home in Montavilla, he’s a clumsy amateur gardener learning to maintain a yard full of various plants. Jeremy serves on the Fundraising Committee and Storytelling Committee. Contact Jeremy

Crew Leaders
Depaving would not be possible without them.
Depave Crew Leaders are trained volunteers that are key to ensuring our fun events go smoothly and safely. Crew Leaders instruct small groups of volunteers at pavement-removal and planting work parties and assist Project Coordinators with event set up and wrap up. Crew Leaders teach new volunteers how to remove pavement safely and work together as a team. Crew Leaders also help with Depave outreach events and other events like the Block Party. Truly, Crew Leaders make what Depave does, possible.
How to become a Crew Leader
In order to become a Crew Leader, volunteers are required to attend a Crew Leader training and are expected to commit to co-lead at least 3 depaving or planting work parties during the summer – fall depaving season. Check out our Volunteer page to learn more. This year’s training will take place on March 2 from 10am - 1pm at Powell Butte Elementary School.
Thank you to our Crew Leaders!
