Job Summary

Depave seeks an Executive Director to direct the organization’s strategic initiatives, manage staff and work with the board of directors, and ensure effective collaboration and communication to support the organization’s goals. This position provides strategic leadership, leads fundraising initiatives, and ensures robust financial management while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team. Additionally, the Executive Director will handle daily operations, ensure compliance with regulations and best practices, and build strong community relations to enhance the organization’s impact and sustainability.

The Executive Director will report to a highly-engaged board of directors, and be responsible for implementing a five-year strategic plan, manage the organization’s finances, fundraising, marketing, human resources, and program strategies. The Executive Director is responsible for managing three staff and various outside contractors. 

Essential Functions

The Executive Director will create and foster partnerships with diverse project stakeholders, and lead the staff and board to advance progress towards the organization’s five-year strategic plan goals. The position will develop and refine organization policies and procedures, support the development of the annual budget, as well as speak on behalf of and represent the organization in the community.

The Executive Director (ED) will manage payroll and benefits for staff, provide staff supervision and support, and implement annual 360 performance reviews to determine staff compensation and development. The ED will lead hiring, and onboarding for new board and staff members. The ED will attend all board meetings, present staff and financial reports to the board, and hear feedback and input from the board. The ED will assist the board president and treasurer with the development of meeting agendas, preparation of financial reports, recruitment of new board members, and organization of an annual board and staff retreat.

The Executive Director will spearhead Depave’s fundraising, and organize the board to assist with various fundraising initiatives, to grow business sponsorships, individual and foundation support. Finally, the position will manage the organization's various funding agreements, sponsorships, and vendor contracts.

  • Community Relations and Representation: Competence in building and maintaining strong community partnerships, representing the organization publicly, and enhancing its impact and visibility.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Commitment to promoting and integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team and organizational practices.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

A deep appreciation for the mission and values of Depave.

Experience cultivating and growing community partnerships, supervising staff, and interfacing with a board of directors.

At least five years of progressively responsible management experience with a strong track record of developing and executing strategies for growth. 

Experience with environmental justice work, and with cultural competence with communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Demonstrated experience advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.

At least three years of fund development, fundraising, and/or other revenue-generating experience. Familiarity with local and regional private and public funding sources.

Demonstrated willingness, ability and success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors. 

Experience in designing, implementing and articulating strategic organizational development plans and operational budgets.

Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach, supervise and develop staff.

Innovation in spirit, values-driven, self-directed, confident and action-oriented. Exceptional interpersonal and culturally proficient communication skills. Experience and comfort with public speaking. 

Adaptable, accessible, compassionate and professional in demeanor. 

Demonstrated ability and willingness to work independently and responsibly, but also in collaboration with internal and external partners.
