On July 15 over volunteers joined us in our groundbreaking depave at our exciting new project site — Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church! In collaboration with Mudbone Grown, and Learning Landscapes Design Firm, this project will transform the nearly 15,000 square foot parking lot behind the church into a nature play area for kids, sanctuary spaces for older church members, and a community food garden stewarded by Mudbone Grown. The nature play portion of the project will greatly benefit Pequeñitos Childcare, a Spanish language immersion school providing affordable childcare to families in need, located in the church.

In May 2022, Morning Star celebrated its Diamond Jubilee, marking 75 years of service in Portland and one of Cully’s most prominent African American institutions.
